Barrett noticed this butler’s pantry right away and asked us to shoot it, and it turned out to be one of my favorite shots in the book. Interior design and styling by @susanferrier, architecture by @tsb_architecture; Of Common Origin edited and published by @mrbarrettaustin and available on Amazon and at select, awesome, local retailers.

Interior/Exterior at Alys Beach. Architecture by Bill Ingram, Interior by Mary Clark. Much more to see from this home in Of Common Origin: New Architecture of the American South (link in bio). Many thanks to all who have already bought the book! 🙏🏼 #ofcommonorigin #beacharchitecture #alysbeach #southernarchitecture #interiordesign

We met Bill Ingram at his studio in Atlanta, our first interview of the group of architects who would make up Of Common Origin. I photographed while Bill and Barrett talked about design, and then Bill showed us drawings for a small house on a breezy hilltop in Hawaii. No detail, it seemed, was overlooked, either in the man or the architecture. For more on Bill and his work, a link for Of Common Origin is in my bio. He can be followed at @billingramarchitect. #architecture #southernarchitecture #billingramarchitect #interiordesign #ofcommonorigin

Recently photographed this great living room. It belongs to a friend, and it has hosted some super fun super bowl parties over the years. There’s a lot of local art in there, rad furniture, and quite a few tchotchkes.

Bryan Stevenson of EJI at the Legacy Museum in Montgomery, Alabama. Mr Stevenson is someone I greatly admire—this is an understatement, but I’m at a loss for words to describe my respect for him, his work, and the work of the organization he founded. He has chosen a difficult but important path and has given much of himself in the pursuit of equal justice under the law. My pictures accompanied an interview in the Washington Post Magazine (I’ll link in bio). I am grateful to Dudley Brooks for the assignment and chance to meet a hero. Though, I played it cool and (regrettably) did not have him sign my copy of his book.

More Freshwater Land Trust. Turkey Creek. An afternoon much like today’s. @blackdiamond #hiking #turkeycreek #alabama

This is what it looks like to write braille and check your work. Last year, before the pandemic, I had the opportunity to photograph a memorable, precocious girl at Alabama’s School for the Blind. Her energy was boundless as she bounced from typing to explaining how much she loves to read. The book in the last picture is a great children’s book, and what they do is rebind it with a clear braille sheet atop each page so that as the child reads the braille, the parent can follow along. Super cool. This was shot for the Alabama Power Foundation Annual Report, designed by @cayennecreative.
